Basement Remodeling or Finishing
Finishing Your Basement
Let's face it; remodeling your basement isn't cheap. But it is a great way to add space to your home either for storage or for living space. Many people make the mistake of not addressing basement water problems or foundation problems before construction that may come up after the remodeling project.
What To Do Before You Remodel?
Before you begin your basement remodeling project, there are several things you can do to help protect your investment.
1) Make sure you don't have foundation problems. Visually inspect the floor and the walls for cracks that appear to be changing. Foundation cracks that are larger than a hairline may indicate you have other problems going on. Visit our Foundation Repair page for more info on what to look for.
2) Make sure you don't have water problems. Leaking cracks, water coming up from the floor/wall joint or other issues causing your basement to get wet can be frustrating and costly. Visit our Waterproofing Solutions page to see the 8 steps you can take to ensure you have a dry basement.
3) Dehumidify the space. Most of the walls finished in basements are faced with paper-faced drywall installed on wood studs. It is widely known that mold eats paper. Wood is organic and also a food source. Sometimes a standard dehumidifier won't cut it in a large space. Ask our representives for a no-cost assessment of your basement before your remodel.
